First off congratulations on meeting this life milestone. It is recommended that 3 months before your 65th Birthday you register for Medicare Part and Medicare Part B. This is can be done online through Medicare or Social Security. You can also call Social Security at 1-866-895-1795 or 1-800-772-1213.
Part A covers inpatient hospital stays, skilled nursing, hospice, and some home health care needs. This coverage is free for most people.
Part B is outpatient medical coverage. Medicare Part B helps pay for services from doctors and other health care providers, outpatient care, home health care, durable medical equipment, and some preventive services.
Medicare Part C is also called Medicare Advantage. This includes all benefits and services covered under Part A and Part B and may include prescription drugs, vision, hearing, and dental — bundled together in one plan. This is an alternative to Original Medicare which is offered through private insurance companies.
